Letter to My Congressman

Sir:

I am writing to express my concern about H.R. 4.

The lack of ability for the government to pull drugs from the medicare formulary when an agreement is not reached in negotiations with drug companies is appaling. It leaves the bill not filfilling it's intended purpose of saving taxpayer money.

The Congressional Budget Office itself has come to this conclusion and I will refer you to a letter from them to Rep. Dingell which states that the bill "...would have a negligible effect on federal spending because we anticipate that the Secretary would be unable to negotiate prices across the broad range of covered Part D drugs that are more favorable than those obtained by PDPs under current law."

I hope that you will work to amend this.

cf this blogpost on the issue.
